Dorian's Speech
I
was born on august 10, 1618. I believe I lived a great life so far. My parents
cared a lot about me and wanted me to live a great life and I did. My mom got
me into gardening when I was 8, she wanted me to not hate being a slave. So
when I became a slave I at least enjoyed planting things and I did. My mom had
died 2 years after that when she tried to escape from her slave owner. When she
ran away they shot her and I never seen her again. My dad helped me with
gardening after that and after a while it became a hobby. After a while I
had met Thomas. His family didn't treat me like a slave and we became friends.
I worked on the fields a lot with Thomas. That was the only way our
families could make money really. I went to Creighton University for a while
with Thomas before I was taken out to become an official slave.
At first worked as a slave to a mean slave owner and it made gardening not
so fun. He yelled a lot and would hit people on the slightest mistakes. Luckily
I was pretty good at working on the fields and didn't get hit too much.
It is tiring being a slave. I had to work on fields all day in the beating hot sun. After 3 years of being a slave I was promoted in a way because now I was working for the governor Peter Penn. Peter Penn wasn't the worst slave owner, mainly was problem we were friends and he didn't have a lot of time to watch us. Peter had some of his workers watching us, but all they really did was watch. After a while of being Peter's slave we became friends. In 1645, I married my wife Rebecca French. In 1647 I have a child named Daquan and he too got into gardening like me. Garden became such a big hobby for him which I am glad for. In 1649, sadly my friend Thomas dies in the war. It was hard for me and very hard for the governor. Thomas was Peter’s favorite and best soldier and when Thomas died in the war he became very sad. In 1652, another sad thing happens when my dad dies. It was very hard for me when dad had died because now I had no parents. In 1654, I had gotten Malaria and became weak. I got treated by the doctor, but nothing seemed to work. In 1658, I die to Malaria.
Speech
It was the second Sunday of December, and my wife Sophia Wilkins had spent the last three months in the hospital she was very injured. She had had these symptoms of fever and chills and every ten seconds she would get them. I was really worried about her so I took her to the hospital to see if she had any flus or anything like that. It was no big deal to me I thought she had come down with something I wasn’t that worried at first. The doctor took her to check her when he came back out he had this weird sad face then I started to get really worried. He told me that it was tick-borne disease so I almost fainted and caught up to myself. I went to her trying to pull myself together and she didn’t know yet so I told her and we both started crying together. The doctor came in and we hid our tears he told us if we can do an operation and you can have a twenty percent chance of living or you don’t have the operation and have three months to live so we picked the operation. We waited a couple days and Sophia had a lot of pain so they gave her pain medication. It was the day of the operation and we were crying the whole time that day then doctors came to pick her up and I walked with them until I couldn’t go any further. We said I love you to each other and the operation took about three hours long and I was worried the whole time and then the doctors came and I thought that that she made it until they came and told me the news I started crying right there in the middle of the hospital. I hated myself at the moment if we would have just waited she could be right here with me.
